UX DESIGN CASE STUDY
Prototyping a user interface for a machine learning tool for image understanding

Role: UX Designer | Duration: 1 months | Year: 2024
Overview
I designed a user-friendly interface in Figma for SEE-Insight, a tool that supports scientific image understanding through machine learning. It streamlines image annotation by suggesting algorithms based on researcher input, making exploratory research faster and more efficient.
Research
For this project, I did a lot of research on machine learning and image annotation. I reviewed several videos and presentations from the SEE-Insight research team to understand the tool’s purpose and workflow. I also explored various image annotation tools to see what interfaces were already out there and find ideas that could be adapted for this project.
Design Approach
The SEE-Insight research team needed an interface that allows users to flip through a series of images and mark areas of interest by circling or highlighting them. Based on these inputs, the tool would suggest algorithms to help automate and speed up the annotation process over time. Since the functionality is similar to tools found in software like Adobe Photoshop, I used the Photoshop interface as inspiration when designing the layout and controls.
